At Aromatherapy For Australia, we believe that knowing where our essential oils come from is an important part of choosing quality products. Behind every bottle is a plant, a grower and a process that helps transform that plant into the aromatic oil we use and enjoy.
Our Roman Chamomile Essential Oil comes from a well-established family-run farm in Anjou, France, with a long history of cultivating and processing aromatic and medicinal plants.
A Family Tradition Since the 1960s
The farm has been cultivating and processing Chamomile since the 1960s, with the business now managed by the second generation of the family. The transition to the third generation is already underway, continuing a family tradition that has been built around growing, harvesting and processing plants for more than six decades.
Today, the farm processes approximately 400 tonnes of plants each year, producing dried herbs, fresh plant material and essential oils.
The farm itself spans around 300 hectares, with approximately 70 hectares cultivated directly by the family. The remaining land is managed through plantation contracts with other local farmers in the surrounding region. This approach allows the farm to maintain consistent production while working with other local growers.

Cultivating With Sustainability in Mind
The farm grows around 100 different plant species each year, with crops selected and cultivated according to the needs of their production.
Different parts of the plants are harvested depending on the species and the desired end product. These can include roots, leaves, aerial parts and flowers, each requiring its own approach to harvesting and processing.
The farm also works with a network of professional foragers to source plants that can be responsibly wild harvested. However, when larger quantities are required, cultivation is prioritised.
This helps reduce pressure on naturally occurring plant populations and allows production to be planned around a reliable, renewable supply of cultivated plants.

From Chamomile Fields to Essential Oil
Roman Chamomile is valued for its distinctive aromatic character, with the flowering tops being used to produce its essential oil.
From cultivation through to processing, producing a high-quality essential oil requires care at every stage. The experience gained by this family farm over generations provides an important foundation for maintaining consistency in the plants they grow and the oils they produce.
It is this combination of generational knowledge, cultivation experience and careful processing that makes the story behind our Roman Chamomile Essential Oil particularly special.

Why We Love Knowing the Story Behind Our Oils
When you use an essential oil, it can be easy to think only about the little bottle sitting in front of you. But that bottle represents so much more.
It begins with a plant growing in the soil, the people who cultivate and harvest it, and the processes used to preserve its aromatic qualities. Choosing suppliers with a long-standing relationship with their plants gives us an opportunity to share more of that story with you.
Our Roman Chamomile Essential Oil is a beautiful example of this journey, connecting a traditional French family farm with aromatherapy lovers here in Australia.
At Aromatherapy For Australia, we love being able to bring these carefully produced botanical oils to you while sharing a little more about the people and places behind them.
